how bad?

glass polish is the solution for minor scratches... even zaino makes one . it does work best with a porter cable.

can you photo them? or give us an idea of just how deep they are?

I hate performing thread necromancy, but I just suffered this fate as well.

Driving home last night some a$$bag threw something out his window and it dinging off my windshield (zero reaction time, sad story). I gave chase for 1/2 mile, but couldn't catch him (human life wasn't a concern of his, it is for me) in an effort to hold an informal roadside debate regarding his cranium and my anger.

Needless to say, I now have several small, VERY shallow scratches on the windshield. I'll try my best to take a photo of it. Considering it's an almost translucent target, any suggestions on getting these pics?

Oddly enough, I need to make a Zaino purchase anyways. I'll give it a whirl.

Updates to follow...

Updates to follow...
try shooting at different angles- it all depends on the light.
also try shooting from inside the car...
at some angle in some light you will see them and be able to photo them.

if they are very deep, glass polish wont get them-

Even light wear scratches from the wiper blades won't polish out. Zaino's glass polish is good for removing surface contamination, but a professional glass polishing is required to really smooth things out - and that's not a simple or reliable task from what I understand.

I've had the windshield replaced once on mine (around 30k miles) due to a crack and currently have a rather pock-marked windshield (at 80k). The only real solution is replacement, I'm afraid.

Chips can be filled and short cracks can, as well, but scratches and pock marks are there to stay in most cases.

The best way I can describe my imperfection is to imagine a small area, 1/8th" x 1/8" and human hair thickness deep missing from the windshield. It's almost as if the smoothness that is the glass, that allows light to pass through unaltered, has been roughed up in this one area. From the inside, it looks like a small area of bird crap that just wont come off. And as a WnWW, you can understand how frustrating that is.

I recently tried out Detailer's Pride Glass Polish. Like the Zaino glass polish it's more geared to removing water spots. However, it definitely has some abrasives in it. I was able to remove some very, very light scratching in my dad's windshield using it and the PC with a cutting pad.

Do you think Zaino will help reduce those tiny chips which are highly noticeable in direct sun ?

Even though I've had my S2000 for only 7 months I've accumalated a whole windshield full thanks to all the construction going on in my area. Every day it's a major battle to avoid those dang trucks hauling away dirt from empty lots!

Any thoughts is appreciated.

Soof,
Likely not. To do so would mean bringing the rest of the glass down to the lowest level of those chips... which is quite a bit of glass. Glass polishes will only remove surface contamination (like water spots, etc) and apparently some very very fine scratches (per Mikey's post).

It's a fact of life with the S because of the relatively upright position of the windshield.
