Very nice. I have a friend that says "silver can never shine" ... I constantly tell him otherwise.

To some degree your friend is right. In bright sunlight silver will never have the depth of reflection that a dark colored car has. It's simply physics. There's no way around it. If you notice most of the time you see reflection pictures of silver cars they're in the shade.

Why not use like a Meguiars car wash instead of dawn? I thought dawn is abrasive on paint.

I'd say the Dawn wash is to remove all the old spotty wax or whatever so that when he went back to polish and wax the car, it was applied evenly everywhere.

Dawn takes off all the old wax on the paint so I'm working directly with the clear coat, not the old wax layer

Keep in mind if used regularly Dawn can dry out the rubber/plastic on your car. Your use of Dawn here was also not really necessary. You polished & clayed the car as well and either of these two steps will remove whatever wax is on the car without the adverse affects of Dawn.

probably so. I only washed the body panels with the dawn; don't think I hit the rubber molding to much. I have to worry about the polish that I got on the rubber moldings more so then anything else right now
