I spray the stuff on a soft sponge then apply it to the top. I buff off the excess with a MF towel 1/2 - 1 hour after application.

My preference is Raggtop because (IMO) there is less product run-off aduring a rain aor the next wash. By run-uff I mean a slimely film on the windows and paint.

303 and vinylex are also good products with more run-off (once again IMO).

What do you guys use to apply the stuff that you put on your tops? And whats a good product out there that would help keep our tops nice, black and looking new?
RaggTopp, 303, Vinylex, as petraidm said, are all great choices.

303 is probably the close leader when it comes to S2k owners, followed by RaggTopp. What you will find with the 303 is that you should apply it by spraying onto an applicator sponge, wipe on, allow to sit and bond for about 5 minutes, and then wipe off the excess with a lint-free cloth. That final step will eliminate runoff.

On the other hand, RaggTopp is endorsed by Haartz, the leading manufacturer of convertible tops. However, our top is not made by Haartz (I don't think) so it's not a direct recommendation. However you can infer that the product is a very good one.

Either way you go, remember that our top is VINYL, not fabric.

I just bought Vinylex. After reading the directions, I'm a bit confused.

am I supposed to wash my car first, then apply the vinylex? Also am I supposed to have thd top dry before applying this product or can I apply it after I finish drying my car?

I use Vinylex and I'll tell you how I apply it. I spray it on to a damp sponge first and then start wipping the top in small sections. You'll notice some dirt on the sponge (yes I use a top cleaner first for those wondering) but I just rinse it off and continue. Be careful not to spray to much on the sponge because a little goes a long way. I've been do this on MY02 for three years and the top still looks as good as the day I bought the car.

Do your normal every day every city in America auto shops like O'rielly carry these products. Is washing the top with water and maybe a car wash soap ok before you put on the protectant or do i need to buy convertible cleaner first?

No, you don't need to use a special convertible top cleaner. You can clean your top using the Car Wash Solution you use on the paint. I'll apply a fresh application of Raggtopp protectant every 4-6 weeks after washing the car

Typically I will use the convertible top cleaner once or twice a year only. I find that the convertible top cleaner does a great job of removing all the old protectant which is not something you want to do everytime you wash your car!

Hope this helps

P.S. Edit ... I am not sure if the local Walmarts and O'Reily's, Pep Boys ... etc. carry this stuff since I typically order from online vendors
