Default Top Cleaner Necessary?

What do you guys think? Usually I just scrub the top with NXT car wash when I'm wondering whether I'll notice any difference whatsoever if I switch to to top cleaner such as 303 Convertible Top Cleaner. If it makes any difference, I top off the wash with 303 Aerospace Protecant.

car shampoo is fine- just be sure to use a good protectant on it when its dry
303 is a good choice

I'll preface this by saying this is after my car wash, in which the roof was washed with cg super suds II and a horse hair brush.

Foam cleaning the Soft top. Here I am working the foam into the fabric, then buffing it off with a towel.

Clean towel on the left, dirty towel on the right. I ended up cleaning the soft top 4 times on the exterior and twice on the interior. Using a different towel each time.

Second time on the exterior.

Third time, It is not super noticeable, but there still was enough dirt on the towel to warrant cleaning it a 4th time.

I moved on to protect ti with a fabric protectant called four gaurd made by prochem

I think with our vinyl tops using a soft bristled brush helps a lot when cleaning the top.

Also, I always felt that top cleaner got the top a little cleaner than car wash soap. However, you can still keep it pretty clean with soap.

Yes! I wash my whole car with a ling-bristled boars hair brush. When you soap up the top and rub this brish over it with the grain in the vinyl, you will probably remove all of the dirt, unless your top is unusually dirty or neglected.

There was a post of an owner with a blue top, in which he cleaned half the top with the raggtopp cleaner. Those pictures sold me. I only used it once so far, and my top is not that dirty(garage kept). I really liked it. I used it with a short handle brush with split end nylon bristles(really soft). My local detail shop sold me a horse hair brush, which I'm gonna try next.

I saw the same pics, and they made me wonder if raggtopp cleaner might not have some polishing agents in it. Some cleaners do, and that's a good thing. I may try it.
