Default Water softener

I heard that the reason we have water spots is due to the fact that there is mineral deposits in tap water. If thats the case, if you have a water softener to remove all the minerals and deposit from the water before you wash your car isnt it true that you no longer need to dry you car? anyone that has one please verify. thanks

Ya know, I've been thinking about this lately!
I do have a softener. It's the type where they come out once
a week and change a canister. And, I still get water spots!!!
I hate that! I was thinking about installing a permanent type
that takes salt refills. I have a feeling that it would work better.

Someone told me that if you mix a small amount (a cap full) of vinegar
into your soap while washing you won't get spots. I'm not sure how that could work.
And, I don't know what that would do to the Zaino on my paint!!

Anyway, nice color combo on your S2000!! I like it !!

Majorhavoc, I think the water softener doesn't work on water outside the house. Your water softener is probably connected only to water in the house. I have a hookup for a water softener at my house, and from the location of it, it only works for water in the house, not at the garden hose.

I think it depends how it's plumbed. We can bypass our softener by flipping a valve if we want to water the lawn or something like that, but we wash the cars with softened water. And yes, we still have to dry the cars off because the salt in the water will leave spots, but nowhere near as bad as the hard water spots.

You're right except I added 2 valves in my garage at the softener
so I could have access to soft and "hard" water in the garage.
I only wash my cars with the soft water!

I still think a softener that is purchased will yield better results. S2K Power will have to let us know!!

i used to work for a local Toyota dealership as a detailer. and when i wash with the water softner hose, there is never any water spots... you dont even actually have to wipe down the car, it never leaves white spots.. i think one of those machines cost like over 2k dollars. the best solution i have used for home is just to use the california wiper blade, which looks like a wegie and it takes the water off the car. Then i take my 220mph TORO blower to blow dry the car, then use a chamoi to clean up the balance of water spots.

WORKS GREAT

Yea my water softener does run to the garden hose and it is the industial stregth one. I did a test wash and is still leaves VERY small white dots, I assume from the salt. It is not as bad as hard water but you will still need to dry it off.

once you guys get a few coats of zaino Z2 going, all you'll need is that toro leaf blower. Water just shoots off the car. I dry mine off with the leaf blower in 5 min. Get's water out of those hard to get spots really easy.

I had my installer add a valve off of my water softener in the garage - I leave a hose attached to it permanently so that I can wash the cars with it. It makes a huge difference - very minimal spotting at most, but I still dry off the car with a chamois.

For those of you guys with the Toro leaf blower/vacs, do you use yours exclusively for the car? I have one that I bought for yard work, but I'm afraid of blowing dust/dirt back out of it to use it as a dryer.
