Wax for s2000 q
Picked up a 2001 s2000 last week and the honda dealer told me they put some protective coating on the paint which you dont have to wax. Is this shit for real or should I still be waxing my baby.
Af if the answer is yes, which wax is the best to use?

Sounds like your dealer is BS'ing you. Especially if he didn't give any details of the "magic" treatment.
Do a search for wax. You'll find a hundred different opinions. "Opinions are like a$$holes...everyone has one and everyone elses stinks."

there are several "magic treatments" available... at least he didnt charge you extra cause they are big rip offs in the opinion of this board (this has been discussed several times all with the same conclusion).
the main problem with them is that no product can out last swirls. your car will be swirled within a year no matter how good of a job you do taking care of it. at that point you will remove the swirls and remove any magic product that has been applied.
there really are two realistic choices for protection- old fashioned carnuba wax and synthetics.

so which is better to use on the car.. carnuba or synthetic?
and at that which brand is the best to go with?
im pretty new to waxing, never really had new cars in the past, only old cars whos paint never really required or would benefit from wax

mcnbcn, they did give me some details but i lost the sheet and forgot what was put on. They did that along with rustproofing, and scotchguarding the interior, which was done prior to me purchasing the car.

"best" in terms of how long it lasts would be synthetic (zaino, finish first, klasse, etc.)
"best" in purist terms and in ease of application is more likely carnuba (probably one of the easiest and my current fav, is p21s)
my car has several coats of zaino topped by p21s at this time- best of both worlds!!

A couple of key observations:
1) The process you use is more important than then final product. Any product applied over a swirled and spider webbed finish will be less than satisfying. Especially on a black car. This however is a whole different topic.
2) I have used lots of products on a Metallic Pearl, Suzaka Blue and a Black vehicles. Unless you are anal about the appearance. the differences exist but are subtle. Some are more reflective, some are deeper and wetter, .... etc. In my opinion, most people will not notice the difference.
3) If you plan on waxing the vehicle every 1 to 2 months it really doesn't matter which product you use. Go for one that is easy to use and looks good. For black cars I like Poorboys EX and/or a P21S/S100 products; both are extremely easy to use.
4) If you plan on waxing the vehicle only 1-2 times a year, I have to recommend Zaino. Looks great and very durable.
