Yeah, the tips need to be done. Typically I use my wheel cleaner to do the tips, but I ran out.

As for the mit, it's this one... http://www.autopia-carcare.com/vk-103.html

Should I get something else?

Using the two bucket method you won't get swirls. I also spray off the loose dirt on the mitt with the hose before dunking it in the rinse bucket. I would imagine you'd see more swirls with a microfiber mitt just because the nap of the fabric is shorter compared to the wool mitt. That and my experience with the wool mitt is that it releases dirt particulates easier when rinsing than microfiber does.

My s2 is black and I only get minor, minor marring after 3 or so months of washing... and mine gets all sorts of grime on it being in the elements all the time. Swirls will happen on a car that gets dirty and then washed regularly, but using a wool wash mitt properly will greatly minimize swirl occurances.

Anyway, sounds like the products you have waiting will work wonders for the finish. Didn't see any clay in your detailing supplies list, but I'd definitely recommend it as paint prep is key for a beautiful finish and a clean surface helps the sealant's durability.

Yeah, the hood is bad. If and when the S becomes my weekend car I will get the hood repainted.

I don't have a PC because I have no access to outlets where I wash my car. But I do have SFX-2, Klasse AIO, Menzerna Finishing Glaze, and P21S waiting to go on. I am hoping that makes the car look even better.
All you need is a 750W power inverter, like me. One can be had for under $50 online. Just Froogle it.
