Default wheel wells

Anyone know why there is a spray (tar like) coating in the rear wheel wells and not the front?

I clean the front wheel wells from time to time, however can't the rear because coating comes off...

dont really know...

but i do know that the fronts have a lining (the "inner fender") that the backs do not. maybe this coating is because of no lining?

That sounds reasonable. I believe the coating is rust proofing.

Yeah, it's a rubberized protectant. You COULD clean it up well, then follow it up with a new application of "rubberized undercoating" that you should be able to pick up at most body shop supply stores and some auto part stores.

I've been meaning to recoat mine, since I sort of scrubbed through a couple of spots. (it's painted underneath)
