Default Where's Our Leather Experts?

can anyone point me to a DIY link with how to work wrinkles out of leather interior? i know it involves heating it to shrink it and, i think, minsk (sp?) oil to keep it from drying out, but i need more specifics. anyone willing to point me in the right direction?

o.k.- not a leather expert, but i understand that low heat (maybe an iron set on the silk setting) might help.
first cut open a paper bag and put that over the leather- then slowly iron the area...
dont hold it too long and check it periodically to see how its doing.
then post back here to let us know how it went.
be sure not to let it get too hot!!

www.Leatherique.com

Someone posted a couple months back about restoring their blue seats here - try looking for that (if search is working right now)

Agreed! Leatherique is THE stuff for "high-end" leather restoration.

Their products are very pricey, but worth it if you want to clean/ preserve your leather. They have good directions on their site.

Good Luck!

Leatherique I saw another one of their products in use last week and the results were horrible, there are much better systems available.

As for the leather wrinkles coming out, it requires extreme heat, on the verge of actually burning the leather. You will need a heat gun on a fairly hot setting, it will take about 10-15 minutes to shrink a 5 inch square area ever so slightly. No oil is needed (VERY BAD), water will actually speed the process, but you can shrink it much faster this way and so you have to be even more careful.

If you shrink it too much you will create a permanent burn mark, so take it twice...no make it three times slower than you think you have to.

I have not seen the iron technique in process yet, but if you melt the finish, it could either attach to the bag or to the iron if it gets too hot.

Overall this is a very tricky maneuver for someone without leather experience, so take it slow and let me know if you have any more questions along the way, I will be glad to help.
