Thanks for all the reponses.
I'll be coming from Cincinnati
And I wouldn't mind hitting up a Padres game, esp since the Reds will be in town the 23-25!

So yeah beaches are good. Night life at the clubs, zoo, sea world, etc are all good things. I have a buddy from Ohio, he said SD takes the cake in entertainment, but Ohio is nicer country.

Nope!!!! I'm from Colombus, about an hour from Cincinnati. I wanna go back. No bar or beach in the world can make up for the worlds worst pavement, or the lack of a "personal space bubble".
Will be a VERY busy weekend in SD over Memorial, so you will definitely want to book a rental car in advance, otherwise good luck getting around
Ditch the idea about LA, there is too much in SD to see over the course of a year, never the less a couple nights
If you want to have a nice dinner or two out, go downtown gaslamp, La Jolla, Del Mar. Find out which restaurants in advance, and book ahead. Again, holiday weekend, nice places will be booked.
Sea World, Zoo, Animal Park, Padres, Coronado beaches/hotel, Pacific Beach and all the bars and food spots and shopping, Fashion Valley mall, lots of great pizza shops, breweries, casinos if you like to gamble, Seaport Village,
Make sure you get a hotel either in Mission Valley circle somewhere, or by the beaches, such as pacific beach, mission bay, etc
Otherwise you will be too far inland and not close to major freeways and attractions.
For any clubs downtown, bring lots of $$$. Hate to beat a dead horse, but big holiday weekend = big club weekend. Lines out the door, so go by 9pm or sooner. Try even to eat dinner at the club so you can get free cover and just stay. Stingaree, Hard Rock, Broadway, Ivy/Envy, Jade all are the top clubs and all have top notch food. $$$$
