Default S2K...needs a rebuilt engine...options...help...

Hey All,

My beloved s2k is done...down for the count....

@ 60k my mechanic..has informed my engine needs to be rebuilt...cost $4,000...

Second...opinion...Honda dealer...cost $8000....

What started with a small ticking from the engine turned to a check engine light.....to this.. in one commute from...clairemont to Del Mar...a horor story...

I am not too mechanical inclined..unlike my brothers and sister here...

My call call goes out to you...all

Any thoughts...
Any suggestions...
Any help....

would be much appreciated....

peace-

George

BUY another motor instead of rebuilding it if you dont want to spend 4000+ i think someone on the boards selling one for 3800 just look around and hope all turns out well man..sorry to hear about your motor..

yeah..im pretty sure you can find a good used motor here on the boards and try to find a mechanic to install it. spunkysandoval did a AP2 motor swap about a year ago after finding a used motor for a great price.

Hi, i know a place that can do the mtoor rebuild cheaper than 4000$, believe me. This same place did my motor swap (swapped blown f20c to another f20c), for $3600 with new oil, spark plugs, start, and battery, and yes, this was a HOOKUP. But the motor rebuilt, they quoted me at $1073, for you, maybe around $1100-$1150. But this does NOT include pulling the engine out and installing it back on, this will add on another $800-$850 for labor. This is going to cost you around $1900-$2000, and the f20c engines are about $3000-$4000. Or you can just swap another engine in. I chose the more expensive because rebuilding it would take a while and also I think a non-rebuilt motor is more reliable, so i pad that extra $1000 or so to just pull out old motor and swap in another motor. PM me if you need numbers/details.

The shop is called Bruce's Auto, located off Black Mountain Road, in Mira Mesa. Their number is (858) 271-7326. I already shoopped around prior to this and the cheapest others charged me was $4000-$7000 for a motor+motor swap. They did a damn good job on my car though.

let me guess valve dropped due to a cracked retainer..... sorry to hear that mang

if the head is ok, which i highly doubt, and if u know someone that works at a honda dealership, they can pickup a brand new shortblock (block, pistons, crankshaft, oil pump, timing chain etc...) already assembled for probably less then $2400 out. and i have a mechanic with extensive knowledge of s2ks, that could prolly install it pretty cheap.

oh yeah and while the head is off i would have him check the valve retainers, since they are notorious for cracking, also check the head for straightness and mill it flat if necessary.

or u can always go AP2!!!!!

haha that's right. AP2 > AP1

ok i was kidding...

i agree with jeff and aj, no point of rebuilding the motor (unless you're going for big power) if you can pick up another healthy one the same price or less.

btw, how is that your motor went out on you at 60k?

i say rebuild... for $4k-$8k you can have a fully renforced motor (sleeve, forged pistons, rods etc...)... with 0 miles...

Go to:

SPEED SPECIALIES

4781 EL CAJON BLVD.
SAN DIEGO, CA 92115
(619) 287-4500

I had a fully built B16 turbo motor done by them... they do amazing work... this is the shop that the local SD farerri shops send their machine work... not to many good machine shops in SD but this is one of the greats...

MY $0.02...
