I believe there is a smaller one out there but I cannot remember the name. It's a flat piece of metal that screws onto the head and a screw with a cage in the middle of it.
It sounds like you are talking about this:

HUGE WARNING ON THE EUROEXPORTINC SPRING COMPRESSOR!!!!! It will not work with the intake manifold still on car. Trust me on this I purchased one. I started dremeling it then realized it was too much trouble. Im emailing them tonight as well as their website does not reflect this. Needless to say car is all apart so a little frustrating.

Nice write up, but what do I do if one of my guide fell into an oil line? One in a million chance but if fell into the whole next to the Cyl 2 open hole...

I have a magnet pen but it wont go in more than 6 inches but my thin coat hanger wire goes in almost 2 feet...

Am i screwed or can I get it out by removing the head???

I feel you pain Birdie. I had the head completly covered but lost a retainer. Looked for two and a half hours never found it. Still second guessing if it got by my covers. Hoping it fell out onto the engine somewhere. There is a strainer on the oil pump and a baffle covering the bottom of the crankshaft. Others with much more experance can chime in as Im new here but I would atleast pull the oil and see if it flushes out. At that point the oil is out pull the pan and see if its in the bottom. Best of luck!

If it's a oil line and if you can get a coat hanger down it, J/B weld a small rare earth magnet to the end and see if that will pull it out. If the hole just goes down to the pan I would not worry about it.

When doing this mod, would this be the best time to do my valve seals?
