You can bring the piston to TDC to keep the valve from falling inside the engine. However, when you try to put the spring and retainer back on/keepers back in, the valve will likely drop a little making it very difficult. air is best to hold them up.

And as stated, you must use AP2 keepers with AP2 retainers.

I am getting ready to do this, can anyone tell me why the adjusting the rocker arm adjusting screw has to be loosened? Thanks!

It doesnt. You can do the job without touching the adjusters, and you will not disturb the valve adjustment settings in any way.

HOWEVER....when re-installing the cams and caps, you will be fighting spring pressure with some of the cam lobes (because the adjusters are not backed off) this is ok, but you need to go slowly and evenly when tightening down the cam cap bolts. Push the cams and caps down by hand, and go as far as possible by hand with the bolts.

Many people have broken the cam caps doing this without care.

Worst part is, you can't replace one cap. All 10 caps (5 upper and 5 lower) are a matched machined set.

Oh... Well then I think since I am not sure if the rocker arms set screws have ever been checked for adjustment I will do that too. =] Thanks for the quick reply. Hopefully I can do anything no an S2000 soon. I just came from the Supra world, those cars very easy for at least me to work on.

what about late years EDM S2k's?
i'm talking about 2006 and up with 2.0L engines?
what retairnes these have?

wasn't it some TSB about pre 2004 retairners or something and Honda were supposed to use different ones for newer cars?

Part number for 2004 and later European cars w/ F20C is 14765-PRB-A01, i.e. same as F22C. So you're good.
