MB goes Caterham racing
An interesting weekend!
So the plus points, I've just raced at Spa, no accidents, finished both races... which is good!
Race 1 I was 22 out of 27 which I wasn't happy with, but got a very bad start and came back from near last. So some positives. These cars are a nightmare to launch and a definite weak point for me. But all good fun.
Race 2 I went and did a load of practice starts at the back of the circuit first and got a technique which works for me now. So got a decent start although still mugged 2 places. I ended up 20th from 27 and was apparently up to 16 or 17 at one point. I'd have taken that at the start of the weekend I think.
Beating all 6 of my teammates bar the championship contender in qualifying was a positive. I know I'm reasonably quick, it's really the in race stuff, which is all down to experience. I can overtake and dice with people from Honda racing history, but the strategy in this is a lot more tricky and the driving levels are ridiculous. I've no doubt this is one of the toughest UK racing championships! Some of the top boys are very well regarded drivers and most have pedigree or come up through Caterham series (roadsport etc) or have been doing the 420R that im in for a few years. I have to remember I've bought the top level Caterham and chucked myself in, so sort of pleased so far. Still no illusions of podiums but I'd like to end up mid table.
So a lot to work on but things are going on the right direction.
Race footage below. Lost my gps and rear camera unfortunately but it's been very useful and I've made a lot of notes.
LG, I've got a full lap data overlay and taking the same lines as the championship leader - what was happening was coming off the brakes too early. If you don't trail brake enough in these they do understeer. And that means a lot later braking - one of the trickiest changes from the S2000.

Well done on surviving it - I am very jealous you got to do that.
Nice move into Fagnes on the first lap, and the "interesting" braking moment at the Bus Stop was good to watch, too.
I've no doubt you'll work your way forwards.
