Well, at the very bottom, bottom rung of the racing ladder is me.
Ford Escape - tow capacity 3,500 lbs. Home made single axle utility trailer, no brakes (yet). Has been good enough to get me to VIR, Watkins Glen, Pocono and others with the MGA. But so far, I've been afraid to haul the S2000 with this junior racer rig.
I'd suggest driving the rear of the Escape up on ramps instead of using the jack to lift both the tow rig and trailer.
this made it very easy to angle the car. Buy the big rhino ramps and its quick. Single axle with the weight of an s2000. not a good idea. No brakes, even worse idea. Combine all that with a light weight escape that has crap brakes, very bad idea. If it was say a tundra or something that has brakes that can withsand some heat, it would be slightly better.
I have the 2011 grand cherokee with the hemi v8 with the tow package and it works really well. Trailer is an Aluminum Trailer Company 17'6". I daily drive the jeep so it works really well as a dual purpose vehicle without being huge and hard to park around town. That is the only thing that has prevented me from getting a big truck. I may eventually down the line get a pickup too for carrying yard stuff, trash, and hauling the car and keep the jeep also, but I'm not there yet... i went on the Race Ramps website and the ramps i wanted were $700, so I made these based on the race ramps specs for like $70. Each one comes apart into 2 pieces for easier transport. You can see them in the first picture on the trailer broken down.

Depending on the day and how far the track is and how is going, there's two setups I can use!
Close-by track / only 1 car needed; I'll use this very light aluminium 1-car trailer. Tow it with a 5.7 Tundra or the 2012 GMC 3500hd Duramax 4x4 long bed in the other picture!
Further away tracks or if we need to haul 2 cars and equipment... This is the new rig from last Fall
46' enclosed trailer with 9' ceilings and a 6' long mezanine!! What a gem - still need to remove those stickers though.
Didn't realize I never posted until someone brought this back from the dead. 2011 F250 King Ranch, 6.7L turbo diesel, 425hp/850tq on the factory re-tune is plenty for my 32' gooseneck, even with all the aero drag from the party deck up top.
