My wife and I drove through France and Spain last summer - 3,200 miles in 10 days. The S2000 performed perfectly and was much admired by the locals.

If you have not yet considered accommodation, I highly recommend Alastair Sawday's guide to the French equivalent of our B&B's - there is a fantastic selection of really interesting places to stay, which are generally much better value than hotels.

Despite not booking any accommodation in advance, by phoning up one or two hours before arriving at the particular area we wanted to stop over, we were able to get accommodated without problem every night, even in August.

On our recent trip to Bremen, filling the Civic (too snowy for stooks) with 98 Ron typically cost

NOT TRUE! (yet)
Beware though of increased controls lauched by the government, speeding is their big issue this year, so fines are higher and controls more frequent,
BUT... I just did a 2200kms trip (Paris-Grenoble-Marseille-Grenoble-Annecy-Evian-Geneva-Paris) in 3 days and only saw one speed trap.
They're either in moving cars (usually silver 306's) or parked behind bridges or autoroute exits.

Enjoy!!

I have only once in the year and a half I've been here seen a speed trap on an autoroute, and that was at the exit of a tunnel where the speed limit was reduced. Never knew they used moving cars though so maybe I've been lucky!

le car - you should have let me know you were coming!

You've been very lucky - I see them every singe time I drive across France, and thanks to my increased awareness, I manage to slow down before they can 'flash' me... nothing beats the feeling of passing calmly next to them at 140kmh when 1minute before that I was doing 210kmh!

I thought about you when I passed by Chambery (twice), but I had not planned this part of the trip so I couldn't warn you..

If you saw a very dirty S2000 with a snowboard bag in the passenger seat - that was me
