Default Driving to Salzburg

I am probably off to Salzburg for my summer hols on 2013 and I am considering driving the S there (and back). My wife asked if the car (05) is up to it. After the initial “How dare you woman, know your place” I started to wonder if an 8 year S2000 is in fact ‘up to it’. It’s got 65K on the clock but never caused me any problems in the past.

She has sown the seeds of doubt!

Would you take yours?

Hi,

If you have maintained the car, why wouldn't it be? I had similar thoughts when I went on my Euro road trip and didn't take my BMW as this was first time.

However, having been once and knowning the roads etc are so much better than the UK, I am hoping to take my S next summer (one of the reasons for buying it).

I also saw a couple of UK s2000 in France on my way back

Of course!

My car is an MY02, with 85,000 miles on the clock, and has been to most countries in Europe.

You're right, why shouldn't it be fine? Don't know why I questioned it really. In the past I have taken all sorts of rubbish abroad and the 3 Hondas I have had, have all been incredibly reliable compared to them.

Now I need to plan an interesting route.

I take mine to the south of France every year and its done almost 150k miles.

Hit the magic 100k mile mark on a French motorway.

The S2000 always gets admiring looks abroad and frequently draws a crowd at service stations.

I've taken mine regularly to the south of France, last time with £100K on the clock. No reason it shoulnt be up for it. If you're concerned then maybe get it serviced before you go and take out some European breakdown cover.

It does turn heads on the continent. enjoy it, roads are great, scenery can be spectacular.

Do it. I've driven two S2000s from UK to Finland with no problem.

They do get a lot of attention in France, mine got some special attention in Switzerland from a mechanic trying to free up sticking rear calipers. Get them stripped and cleaned before you set off, you don't want the hassle of one seizing up en route.

Apart from that little set back 2600 miles of European motoring and some amazing roads. Just do it!

Although I haven't traveled far in the S2000 yet, as long as it is well maintained and given a good service before leaving, you should be fine. I went with my family down to the South of Spain in our old Merc. We didn't have a single problem and that had a few miles on it!
