Default Ability to use custom avatar?

The best info I could find on the site said that I had to have at least 25 posts to display a custom avatar below my name. I have 30+ posts but still can't choose my own avatar.

I then thought one had to be an S2Ki member, but I've seen guests with custom avatars too.

Just wondering when I'll be able to add the personal touch to my posts.

Those "guests" you saw were also "owners". Owners get custom avatars. You need to enter your car's VIN in your profile to be listed as an owner.

I see. Let me just go find my MR2's VIN number here....

Hmm, look at this though... it says Enthusiast/Guest, but this person appears to have a custom avatar.
rstark

I saw another one last night but can't remember where I found it now (sooo many threads).

rstark used to be an "owner". He sold his S2000. When he reverted back to "enthusiast", they let him keep his avatar because he was also a "Community Organiser" too. Just a courtesy for past deeds.
Also, there was a site malfunction (more like a policy change) a while ago and many people lost their custom avatars. When they sorted it out, peope got them back, including some who were not supposed to. The basic rule is that you must be an "owner" or a "member" to have a custom avatar.
ps. It has to be an S2000 VIN, but I think you already knew that.

Yeah. I don't suppose having track-driven an S2000 counts?
