Default Annoying hidden links

Erik,

There are a set of links next to the text area for fast reply of the normal thread view.

Since that has always been 'dead space' it was a safe click to gain focus and scroll on the page. Now, it tosses me to some random sites. Almost looks like some links are left behind from the Google Ads that were on the bottom.

Can this be corrected?

They are google ads, I guess you have something set up to block them.

AE,

Hmmmm.... I see the ads on top fine. (I thought the last change was to MOVE the ads from the bottom to the top, not add a new set?)

Anyways, they are also not on every thread. Seems odd to me.

Hmm, ther are some ads next to the quick reply filling that "dead space" but they don't always appear. It depends in how many ads there are to display. It there aren't enough then it will be empty. I'm not sure why you would have links there. This reply for example I'm typing in quick reply and the ad space is empty. I tried clicking the empty space to see if I could find something in the there but I can't find anything. I don't really know how to answer.

This thread doesn't have any links at the bottom, however, the source for the page has the google ad code near the TOP:

<center><script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-2030797261146040";
google_ad_width = 728;
google_ad_height = 90;
google_ad_format = "728x90_as";
google_color_border = "E8E8E8";
google_color_bg = "E8E8E8";
google_color_link = "000000";
google_color_url = "0066CC";
google_color_text = "000000";
//--></script>
<script type="text/javascript"

and near the BOTTOM:

<div style="float:right"><script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-2030797261146040";
google_ad_width = 250;
google_ad_height = 250;
google_ad_format = "250x250_as";
google_color_border = "F5F9FD";
google_color_bg = "F5F9FD";
google_color_link = "000000";
google_color_url = "0066CC";
google_color_text = "000000";
//--></script>
<script type="text/javascript"

On other threads, the same is present, and the links are there (just move your mouse around the space to the right of the the fast reply text area.

Erik - try a few more threads - The Site Maintenance thread or the Lost Half my PMs thread. The symptoms occur in both of those threads for me. The source code appears similar. Perhaps that will give some information.

That space is for ads. If there aren't enough it fills it with empty space (I think). What am I supposed to be correcting? What should it do? When you say random link what do you mean? Do you end up as disney.com?

The term random is perhaps the wrong term. I guess there is some order to them, it just seemed that some of the ones I got tossed to weren't sponsor or topic related. (As I type this - two of the links are for ebay, one for ridgeline4wd, and the last for honda-smart, for this thread. I'd say 2 of 4 are somewhat relevant.)

What's weird is I get the links, but no text, no graphic, nothing to signify a link is there (except for the cursor change). When I'm flipping between windows, and see 'blank space' I assume its an area I can use, and don't expect that I'm going to be sent somewhere. In addition, it uses the active window, and a 'back' doesn't keep my text (I wouldn't expect that I don't think). What about forcing a new window?

I've resized my desktop as large as 1600x1200. The links are still there, but no graphics. The chances of hitting one of the 'links' are minimized, but still there.

Since the move of the ads to the top, I've never seen an ad on the bottom, just the invisible but active links.

Hmm, I either see ads or I don't. I haven't seen (sic) any invisible ones. I really don't know what that's about. I can't open links in a new window, not allowed to under the T&C.

send a screenshot, with your mouse hovered over the invisible links.

What browser, and version are you using, and with any adblocking, or extensions?
