The flag is no different than the text. Geeezzz. If it said UK before it shows a UK flag now. There is no difference.

Ian, IMHO you need to get these taken off. It could cause issues with anybody from Northern Ireland.

I've had experience of this at work, when we setup a European website.

The United Kingdom is really four countries united under one government. These countries are England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

A fair number of people, whilst resident in one of the countries, are of a different nationality. Also, in my experience, people within the UK are less inclined to fly a union jack (UK) flag, than their own regional flag.

I think that if a flag is to appear next to someone's name, it should be based on a user selected nationality field (IMHO of course). This would accomodate people not wishing to select anything, selecting uk, England, Northern Ireland, etc.

EDIT: The point I'm trying to make, is that it may be more important to some than others which flag they display next to their name.

I'm English, and as such would fly the St George's Cross

most of the people i know are equally proud to be Scottish or Welsh

Personally, nowadays, I'm embarrassed to be British. Irrespective of which ever bleedin' line I happen to be born behind.
I'm trying to remember the last time I had something to be proud of.

Anyway... Bygones.

The purpose of that field in the database, forgetting if it is a flag for now, is to show someone's location, which is useful - especially for seeing how many people are in the UK etc, rather than nationality, affiliation or anything else.

It'd be a shame to lose that feature IMO, flag or no flag. How about a user option to display the flag or the country code? then everyone could be happy?

Just noticed my profile has a union jack next to it now. Should it be a St Georges cross, I am English not British??? Picky I know but I am sure if you are welsh or Scottish you are not too keen on being associated with us english
