Default Gallery--deleting images without notification

I have no issues with the mods in the gallery deleting an image of mine. In fact, I was 50/50 about posting it (it was a license plate frame with a business name and website [that isn't working atm]). But I think it would have been nice to have a kind pm, or hell, even post from one of the mods in the thread "can you please take the image down, it's considered advertising". I would have obliged without any fuss, because they're just doing their jobs, and I'm not trying to get in the way.

But I find it a bit disrespectful that I wasn't even notified. if you want it gone, fine, but say something. I just think it would have been kind of you to notify, and respectful

That's all. No problem with mods, or how the site runs. Just wish for some notification.

So you knew it was probably going to be gone, you posted it anyway and now you're upset?

Advertising is limited to site sponsors only. Sneaking in a picture unrelated to the topic of your post with a big fat URL to a site, working or not, qualifies as such.

Oh no, I'm not upset as all. Just wish I was notified. I wasn't trying to advertise, but I was on the fence about posting it because I had thought for a second it might cause trouble.

Again, I'm not mad, but I just wish I was notified. Don't think that's too much to ask for

It actually is a lot of trouble to notify people about every action mods take. It may not seem like much in your case but dozens of threads are moved or removed each day and to ask volunteers to double or triple the time and effort it takes to do what they do isn't reasonable. Personal hand-holding doesn't scale well so unless a mod is compelled to notify someone they don't and aren't required to.

Erik,

I don't profess to know how much time it takes the mods/admins to do the functions, and as volunteers, keeping their 'work' efforts minimized probably helps retention and recruitment.

However, if you slap someone's hand without telling them, it more then likely becomes a thread similar to this (not exactly like this where the user had some idea of what was going on), or the person just does it again.

The little note goes along way for the users to understand what they did and why its bad. Perhaps canning up some messages that are triggered by the admin/mods would make it easier for them to deliver those messages, and at the same time help the users to be more compliant?

It is suggested that mods notify people of changes, it's just not required. We can't do it both ways. Either notification is mandatory or its not. It's not a technical problem, it's a business and legal one. The TOS clearly states that no notification or cause is required to move or remove anything. That is the official policy. If I were to require mods to post notice it would implicitly override the provisions we have in the TOS and we absolutely require them in order to maintain absolute control of the site and defend against any claims of liability by potential ass hats.

It isn't a hidden secret, it's in the TOS and posted in various places around the site:

Rules

1. S2KI, its Administrators, Moderators and authorized agents, may remove, edit or move any content and/or delete, suspend or permanently bar any account at any time for any reason (or none at all) without notice or explanation.
We aren't trying to be dicks, we just have certain boundaries we need to play within. Officially, mods are governed by the posted rules and TOS but are told unofficially that letting people know why something was done is polite even if not strictly required.

It's really the only true rule, that is why it is #1. It trumps every other rule and condition and therefore is the only one that counts. Do we really need it? Ask the guy who is threatening to sue the site, the admins and one of the mods. I say it is.

Although I didn't delete this one, I can say majority of the time if it is something that is a posted rule or obvious infraction, I won't message the user and don't have time to PM someone every time I have to make an action. Most of us spend hours out of our days doing work, not play on this site. I completely understand your concern with being notified about the reason or a heads up but please understand how time consuming this can be for some of us and we aren't out to get you or anything, just doing our jobs.

I also go by user age when taking actions. If someone has been on the forum for a short time, I might make an extra effort to help them learn the rules and policy and explain why an action was taken, where as in this case you knew the rules and knew it might be deleted so if I had removed it I wouldn't feel the need to send a message to you about it since you have been on for years and should know policy by now.

A lot of people are quick to complain and hard to appreciate the time and effort the admins and mods of this site put into it to make it such a great place overall. This is the single best forum I have ever been a part of and will continue to stick around no matter what car I end up with because of the people. I hope you don't feel attacked by this post and am more than happy to help anybody with any concerns they have if they feel they have been wronged. Hope you have a good night.
