When this car starts to drop in the $12-15K used price range I think things will go downhill fast.

As the owner of an S2000 and part of the S2KI community we have certain expectations on behavior and attitude regardless of how much you paid for it. We will continue to have friction with those who don't want to fit in as we always have. I have seen no significant change in this regard so worries about being invaded by idiots is premature and likely unwarranted.
There is a steady stream of new owners coming to s2ki with full enthusiasm and willingness to become involved and engaged. There is also a steady stream of those selling their cars or turning them in off lease who are moving to other vehicles and other communities. This is a normal cycle that's not going to change. Statistically there is no indication that the overall constituency is changing, just the names. The S2000 is a special car that means just as much to the person who paid $15K as it does to the person who paid $30K (or more as I did
) It's not going to become pedestrian and will never be produced in such numbers as to become commonplace. Hopefully the lower entry point will result in more being bought and converted to race cars
That will take some off the street and put them to good use where they belong
there are you freakin happy!!!!! i'm a stinking member now! I guess i'm worthy to own a S2000 now. Ok No really seriously guys even though I am a member now, i still believe this should not go into affect. Ok maybe make it to where Guests are not allowed to sell in the FS forum, but allow them to make a thread in the WTB forum, you can pm problem child and talk to him personally about his transaction with me, when i was a non-member, he got paid within 5 minutes via paypal after I agreed to buy his exhaust. let them post in WTB atleast if you're going to do something, cause if a member wants to sell or a guest wants to sell to that person they have to get the money from that person first before they ship the item out, so fraud is less likely, when you're worried about that. Problem Child would have never sold that exhaust to me without me posting a thread in that forum which has been deleted because it showed that I was ready to buy. Just my thoughts once again.
Cthree, you are right. It is not about $20, it is about priorities.
I will be honest with all of you. Paying $20/yr for privileges on a sports car enthusiasts website is not a priority for me right now. Maybe later, but not now. However, i started this thread not to discuss the issue of $20 or not (b/c that topic has already been beaten to death) , but rather why guests should still be allowed to start threads on the FS forum.
I'm not doing this for personal reasons either, because as it stands, my car is currently bone stock w/ exception of an alarm and I plan on keeping it that way.
I would like to say one thing though. Although I am a "guest", I am still an OWNER of an S2K and for some people to say that those who cannot contribute $20 should not own an S2K- that really bothers me, but thats another story.

You're taking those statements out of context, probably on purpose IMO. That statement was made in the context of someone who admits they get a lot of value from this site but can't contribute a measly $20 because they're starving college students. My response to that is if you can afford the car you should be able to contribute $20 to the website that you get so much value from. If you're truly a starving college student you probably shouldn't drive an S2000. I think that's a fair statement in that context.
also i would like to ask that since the board believes they will now have some sort of traceable record on a member from payment of dues - will this information be given out in the event of a scam?? - and if so to who??
No one from the MGT helped when Trip was scammed??

The WTB thing I just answered in the other topic. Guests can freely post WTB topics as detailed there.
problem_child is a member I'm pretty sure?
Yes, people need to be careful about who they send money to as I outlined above. If they take precautions they can avoid being ripped off.
Thanks for your membership! It is a great help to s2ki and I appreciate it!
are you saying that by becoming a member I am protected from the scams that are going on out there? Is s2ki.com willing to go after the offender if I got scammed by another member? Please tell me what are the additional benefits other than being able to sell my stuffs on this website by becoming a member. Otherwise, I'll just browse and won't even post from now on.
