This new rule would hopefully eliminate this problem.
The only thing this is doing is giving you all a false sense of security. You can believe it will help, but don't go crying to Erik when you get scammed.

With Version 4 of S2Ki you don't need a VIN to be an owner.
good to know, the Basic rules for selling link that's stickied in the FS forum doesn't work so i was still under the impression that you had to be an owner to sell on the site. Is this still the case? If so whats the point if anyone can just become an owner.

Why would i cry to Erik? Its my responsiblity of researching the people i buy from or sell to.

Yes, it's cooking alright! It's all part and parcel of the same thing. We've had some sort of restriction on FS for a long time and always with the aim of improving the odds of not being ripped off. Yes people will still get taken, hopefully fewer. This change from anyone to Owner to anyone to Member is just one more vain attempt to curb the problem. I figure that if you are going to scam someone you'll probably use the cheapest option open to you. Why pay extra to rip someone off when you can do it for less? Maybe we are just offering a false sense of security but there aren't many options open:

- Allow anyone to sell, anyone to ripoff members and do nothing about it except say "too bad you should have protected yourself"
- Allow nobody to sell, nobody gets ripped off but a valuable service is removed from many to save a few
- Limit who can sell. Reduce the number of sellers (and scammers) to a known group (not well known, just known in some sense).
- Screen every sale or force all sales be conducted in escrow.

We don't use the VIN/Owner screening anymore. It was useful early on but lost it's usefulness. So we have either everybody, nobody or some subset of the two.

That's my point exactly. People should research the people they buy or sell to. What I said was aimed towards those that think "I won't get scammed now because I can trust all members."

Anyways... I think i've expressed my opinion more than enough here. I do hope you can reduce the number of scams here cthree. By limiting the number of scams you are also limiting the number of legit sellers/buyers, but I do hope there can eventually be a solution that everyone is satisfied with.

want your money back.

I can give you one reason why you didn't sell anything. You are a guest, and you have been here for 114 days. It's a tough market when you are a new guy. So bullshit or not, what can you do.
