Default Guildlines for moderators closing a thread

I've been on this site for a long time, but have noticed that some forums have moderators that tend to close threads for poor reasons. More specifically, I've seen threads be closed for the simple fact that the moderator thought his last post was good enough to fully answer the question, and didn't think there would be anything valuable to add afterwards. Are there any documented guildlines for moderators closing threads?

I don't want to "out" anyone until I see the guidelines.

You won't see the guidelines as this is not a public document.

Specifics will help more than anything.

So moderators close whatever threads they want whenever they feel like it? I expected better than that.

Until you can point to the thread in question, there's no way for us to give you a coherent answer.

This was the "Joys of Moderating" thread that we discussed.

gernby likes to attribute opinion as fact.

"Poor reasons?" What does that even mean?

And "simple fact that the moderator thought his last post was good enough to fully answer the question..."

That was me and his opinion once again is hardly "fact."

I closed it because I thought it was a pointless thread. I posted to try and throw some help to the poor OP.

I opened it because gernby thought the thread would be productive.

I left it open because he seems to have (an apparently ongoing) beef.

I will continue to close threads in S2000 Talk that discuss "Which one is faster, AP1 vs. AP2."

gernby, you can be disappointed in moderators all you like. I listened to your point of view and had the thread reopened. I don't have to like or agree with you, but I respect your expertise in that subforum and hope you continue posting.

Not sure where you're going with your crusade, but as a volunteer job we're doing a pretty good job, I think.

No.

They're allowed to close threads according to the guidelines for moderators.

Honda Gal did not say that there are no guidelines.

There are.

What Honda Gal said is that you're not allowed to see those guidelines.

That's a very different thing.

And you got better than that.

What you didn't get was simply an exposition of the guidelines.

Damn. I didn't ask this question as part of an offensive crusade against CKit, but since CKit chimed in, I'll say that the thread in question is this one.

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=745341

I can see why threads in S2000 Talk about "which color is better" would be closed, since there are thousands of them. However, this thread in the Engine Management forum is way more unique than that. It also still waits for a resolution by Hondata (assuming the OP wasn't just trolling).

I don't have any beef with CKit, especially since he did reopen the thread at my request. I'd just like to know if there are some guidlines for the future. I truly think it's weird to keep guidelines a secret.

Moderators aren't perfect and they don't bat 100%. What we do have is a commitment and loyalty to the integrity of the site.

General guidelines are to remove or lock threads that are in violation of site rules. Sometimes that line is subjective. As such, I personally am open to communication that brings up an alternate view.

I would refer you to "Terms of Service" linked in HondaGal's signature.
You understand and agree that the Service is provided "AS-IS" and that S2KI assumes no responsibility for the timeliness, deletion, mis-delivery or failure to store any user communications or personalization settings. You are responsible for obtaining access to the Service and that access may involve third party fees (such as Internet service provider or airtime charges). You are responsible for those fees, including those fees associated with the display or delivery of advertisements. In addition, you must provide and are responsible for all equipment necessary to access the Service.

You acknowledge that S2KI may or may not pre-screen Content, but that S2KI and its designees shall have the right (but not the obligation) in their sole discretion to pre-screen, refuse, or move any Content that is available via the Service. Without limiting the foregoing, S2KI and its designees shall have the right to remove any Content that violates the TOS or is otherwise objectionable. You agree that you must evaluate, and bear all risks associated with, the use of any Content, including any reliance on the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of such Content. In this regard, you acknowledge that you may not rely on any Content created by S2KI or submitted to S2KI, including without limitation information in S2KI Message Boards, and in all other parts of the Service.
