I don't have any issues with the terms of service, and am not asking for a refund. I just wanted to know what the guidelines were for closing a thread. I don't believe the thread linked above violated any site rules.

Honestly, CKit, I was not trying to stir up any crap for you. I just wanted to know the guidelines.

I would suggest the forum was new at the time and still is relatively new. We need time to figure out the expectations of the forum.

The thread in question was discussed in the mod forum which is a relatively standard process if moderators have questions or concerns or the admins have questions or concerns. The thread was not reopened by your request gernby, but rather a discussion and mutual consensus the thread might have been prematurely closed.

s2ki is full of trolls these days, full of people thinking it is fun to whore up threads and new forums, so I will stick my neck out and say in this case the OP maturity date is 13 days, last post was November 15th. There is a high probability this user is/was trolling. The forum is sponsored by a company. I would rather suffer the consequences of a complaint as opposed to trolls spamming a thread or a forum and we do nothing about it.

Day one of this new forum we had some issues, two days after the new forum set up this thread was posted.

CKit is a good moderator in our eyes, and specifically my eyes, thus the reason he was given the moderator duties of this new forum. I base my decisions on past history. We try to put the best people on as mods, site mods that we can but it is not always a perfect solution. The admins discuss potential mods so there should be no favouritism.

If people have issues with moderators, pm the admins of s2ki with your questions or concerns and we will deal with it behind the scenes. Moderator guidelines or how we moderate is not a public discussion for the membership to decide on process. We are not perfect, s2ki is not perfect, and the moderators are not perfect. If we could pay people to moderate, then these issues are more of a concern. These guys are volunteers. Typically a moderator signs up to moderate because they want to help and they are passionate about the S2000. Very rarely, is it for status.

Any further questions

No further questions. I appreciate the feedback. I was never angry about the thread being closed, but I was a little annoyed about the "ribbing" after it was reopened.

I have a lot of appreciation for the moderators, since I know that it is a lot of work with very little reward. I expect to be a regular participant in that forum, and believe CKit and I will develop a mutual respect for each other.

The moderation guidelines ARE the terms of service which also includes the rules posted at the top of the announcement forums (pretty standard). They are given a great deal of leeway in doing what they feel best for the forum. If that means closing, they close, if it's deleting, they delete.

We are sorry you were upset by a moderation decision, we don't intend to upset anyone, but moderators do what they think is best for the forum at the time they make the decision. Moderators have a great deal of authority over the content in their forums and we expect them to act fairly, justly, objectively and in the best interests of the users, the forum and the site. They do the lion's share of the work in maintaining the quality of the content.

Unless there is clear evidence that they have acted improperly we allow them to work out them to stand by their decisions.

We generally don't question the moderators' judgement or actions, especially when there is no track record of problems. Revisiting moderation decisions leads to nothing but a power-struggle and a run and ask mommy drama between certain users and moderators. We could argue all day about whether a decision was a good one or not but in the end the moderator makes the call.
