My feelings on the Corner:
Most Corner frequenters are members and gold members, and owners for that matter. It's pretty much pay-to-play there already. Yeah, there's some use of bandwidth, but keep in mind that the site administrators also like to tout usage and post numbers... I don't honestly think anyone's getting hurt by the bandwidth utilization there.
Josh is entitled to his opinion, but the fact is that many of us folks who hang out there are very close and there have been multiple conventions, and even two weddings that've come out of it.
IMO, s2ki.com is way more than a car website. The Corner is a weird kind of club, but most of the folks are like-minded and get along very well. If you want to single out the Corner as perhaps just being silly, I'll say that's unfair. And, if you want to take a position against *all* off topic stuff on s2ki.com, I'll say that's a consistent point of view, but too narrow (IMO).

It would be helpful to have real numbers on usage to help judge what'd be helpful to the site. Honestly, from what I've heard over the years from the admins, it's the sheer number of posts, not the bandwidth (although that can occasionaly be a problem), that tends to overwhelm the equipment.
I think there are some reasonable solutions for the "number of posts" problem as well, but that's pretty touchy. No one wants their threads removed, even some of the nonsense in the Corner.
