A letter of Protest to the site management/ownership...
I'd prefer to be able to decide for myself whether to put a FUGLY badge in my sig for the following reasons:
1) It's FUGLY.
2) I like to have the choice to decide what's in my sig and not have it put there for me.
3) I give to the site to support the site, not out of some need to get "credit" for supporting the site. In fact, if I were told in advance of paying the $50 that the result would be a FUGLY badge in my sig I wouldn't have given, or I would have gone with the basic membership. I don't use any of the Gold Member specific benefits anyways.

I have been using this board for over 2 years and when my membership runs out there is little need for me to re-new it as I no longer own an S.
It's difficult enough to feel part of the site without owning the car anymore (having moved from UK) and this will just make some of us feel even more ostracised - which I presume is the whole point of the exercise?

No one is forcing anyone to join anything. I just don't get where that is coming from. You should get benefits as a paying member, why not? Look around, there are what? 20,000 members and maybe 1000 paid members on this board. What's the cost to be a member for a year? $20, divide that by 365 days = 5.4 cents a day?

Good thing I'm too cheap to pony up the fifty bucks...
