I'm wondering if the membership is worth it just for access to classifieds...as in are the classifieds pretty active. I've noticed there are a lot of guests viewing the forums...moreso than members usually. I really only need the membership level for classifieds but I have been a part of some forums with private classifieds that were duds so I want to make sure first.

You only need a membership to post things for sale. You don't need one to look at them and buy things.

I should stress that membership doesn't just give you the ability to sell things on the forum it supports this community and this site that has a ton of excellent information. If you use just one DIY off this site the $20 for the year has more paid for itself. I bet you have wasted $20 on something far more pointless.
