newbie grace period
#11
What's the great idea that you think is so great? Ok, we have a probation period but you haven't suggested what it means. No posting? Limited posting? Ritual spanking?
they didn't allow me to post anything, anywhere except in their "new members" thread. i got to ask my question and to my surprise, they actually answered it.
with that said, just food for thought, would a "new members" thread would alleviate the traffic of newbie questions? they could possibly answer themselves.
if someone went looking into this thread, it would be expected that these "newbie" questions would be asked in there and possibly willing to answer them.
you could possibly place the stickies in there. maybe stating that the grace period is for 30 days and whatnot.
i understand it's a lot of work to maintain a site like this, but the main reason was to prevent "hostile" reactions to redundant questioning.
the worst thing to do is make the newcomers feel unwelcome to the community. i just didn't people to take things the wrong way.
this suggestion was only for the best intentions for the community. other than that, i think this site is the most user friendliest.

I think Cthree is right in that we have to suffer a certain amount of inanity in the forums. Identifying the search function at registration seems like a good idea
But I like the idea of a probationary restricted post period, which apparently we already have to some extent.

Bump all ya want but there is no restriction that prevents a new users from posting a good post in the right place and there isn't going to be one at least that I can foresee. It's the wrong answer to the right question.
New users require the most help. Preventing them from asking for it doesn't serve the community in any way. If a particular forum is filling with pointless nonsense then get on the moderators of that forum about it. They are responsible for leading the forum and organizing it so it's useful. If it's not then that's due to ineffective moderators. They aren't just there to screen out rule-breakers. Demand the mods maintain the forum FAQ.
