Default Observations Thus Far

Some observations thus far. I realise this is an interim period and that some of these things are being worked on.

Nice features
List of individual members in each forum .
'Delete cookies set by this board' link.
Topic Options button.
Categorised Topic Subscriptions in MyS2k.
Ability to edit/lock/delete one's own posts.
Option to include Topic content in email notifications.

Complaints
Periodically so slow it often times out.
Inability to find sponsor links or info.

Wish list
Member's location.
Ability to unsubscribe from 'Contributed To Topics' in MyS2k.
Buddy list 'who is online'.

All in all a vast improvement over the old v3. I like it.

Any explanation for this? We're still on the same server, right? More complicated scripts? Less efficient DB access?

We were having DB issues. They're solved for the most part, but are still being worked on.

It's entirely new software. We had 3 years to tune and optimize v3 and only 3 days so far to do the same for v4. We need time to identify where the bottlenecks are and come up with a way to improve them. Slow response time is obviously not a desired feature nor is it something we are prepared to live with. We've made some significant improvements so far armed with the expereince we have from doing this awhile but this software, the database structure it uses and the way the software functions will take us a little while to nail.

The developers of the forums software are assisting us with this process. Things will improve as time progresses.

I miss the knowing what kind of car a person has just by looking under their name. It helps alot in the F/S forum on parts for sale

Also, if I enter my VIN in my profile, can everyone see it?

That is the same behavior as v3. I select from the db all threads that you have posted to that have new posts in them. While it could be coded I don't think we will do it because it wouldn't be simple.

The other complaints/wishes are all work in progresses and will be coming soon.

Good point. I was just curious, and I have definitely noticed an improvement even in the few days that the site has been up & running. Thanks guys!

Yes. A marked improvement speed-wise today. I haven't as yet experienced any of those occassional lags I was getting a day or two ago.

I really miss the location of the poster and the year and color of the car they have too. I looked at that info often. Will we get it back? (I know it's been said before but I don't think it was answered if it will be back.)

The new changes in changing your post's color or size are great! It's much easier.

- I really wish it wouldn't show that a post has been EDITED
