S2ki should start a list or maybe a new section in the library. Something like Dealer Experiences. There we can track dealer screw-ups or praise. Airgate's listing for a recent problem he experienced would be:

We should keep track of owners experiences for easy reference. Maybe we have it sort by member, model year, or dealership. S2ki, what do you think? If you could set up a database for owners to input thier info it would be a big help. I always see posts for people asking for this type of info.

This could be a new feature for 2002!!!

If others think this would be useful, please speak up. This may be the best idea I'll have this year...

 

sounds like a good idea to me. If everyone would commit their experiences, it would be very useful. I imagine the dealerships would find it enlightening as well...

Good idea. On the old site, we had a section "Dealer Rants" categorized as either Good or Bad. This provided one with the opportunity to enter comments but was not structured at all. I like your idea of having a format. You might want to email hondagal or cthree on this in case someone from the board might not see your post. The more structure and content we have on this site the better and your idea would certainly provide important data to serve as a flashing red light for bad dealerships or help newbies find a good dealership in their area. I would also recommend that your new section have a dealer lookup feature with all dealerships listed on a poplist searchable by name or location. The person entering the comment would have to pick a dealer from this list and not be able to enter the dealer name free form. Then, as the comments are submitted, a code for that dealership would be stored internally vs. the name so that later one could list out comments accurately by dealership, location, or rating or combination of rating and location. The system would also force the submitter to rate the dealership by clicking on the rating much the same as we currently do on polls. You would have to provide a search feature in a pop up window to allow someone to search the database by dealer, location, rating and combinations of location and rating.

Once this feature is up and running, it could be adapted to provide similar information on owner mods where dealership name could be replaced with mod name.

When you think about it, this is really an augmented (ie. more useful) poll.

One of the board members, should peg this thread to the top of the S2K Talk forum so that we can bat this around and think through it carefully. That is, if they are interested.

littleton, I like your comments. We would need some way of having the correct dealership name. Maybe somebody could write a script that checks the dealership name with Honda's web page for verification. Not sure an easy way to do this.

I'd love to have an online database for tracking these kinds of issues. Only owners, those who have provided a VIN, would be able to post to this database.

skibum, I should reword my last comment. This may be the best idea I'll have for S2ki this year. I hope to have other good ideas, maybe some that can be patented .

My quick response is yes, I believe this could be an excellent 02 project. The old site did have a rant section https://www.s2ki.com/library/dealers/review...ews/reviews.php It was not carried over to the new site for lack of a better word. "Bad Press" Note the format is shown, but the links are not active.

My thoughts on this subject (haven't talked it over with cthree or krazik) but if a database could be developed similar in format to airgates' layout I think it would be ok to house this information on s2ki's site. I do think we need to provide information to our members like we try and do with the MSRP listing.

We do not want to run the risk of law suits due to misrepresented information.

The second issue, cthree and krazik have full plates. And I think this would not be on top of the list of priorities.

Having said that, we welcome extra help! If anyone or a group whom are interested in this project want to develop it we can speed up the process of implementing it.

I would suggest this be searchable by dealership, with the members nickname, but not to include the members vin#. Being able to rate the number of good and bad stars this dealership gets. The top 10 dealerships could be listed. It would only be for service, not your sales experience. I agree that "owners" should have access to the database, but viewable to all. Some members are not comfortable with registering their VIN to earn owner status.

I am not technical and have no idea if this is a large project or a 10 minute job. The requirements would be to make it work properly with our current site format, which would be housed in the library.

So, having said all this what is the concensus? cthree, Krazik.. members?

 

Sounds like a useful addition. I'm all for it! With all the traveling I've been doing, it would be very helpful if I needed work done out of town, too.
