Smilies - where do I find the codes for them?

Can any one point me to the smiley codes - the brackets and colon type stuff. I used to have these but have misplaced them somewhere. Consequently, my repertoire is currently limited to

And if you want to use ones like pics you can find plenty of cool ones out there. 
Pretty easy to keep them in macros using a program called keytext. I just put the little pimp smiley up by hitting alt-a and then filling in the name of the gif I wanted to use

I've seen all the smiley faces that people attach to their E-mails, but I just can't figure out exactly how to do it (I'm not a computer guru like many of you on this board). Can someone post somewhat detailed instructions for us computer neophites? Thanks
