Default Taking something other than Paypal

What are the chances of taking something other than PayPal?

I've tried to sign up twice now, and I've given up each time. The most recent time, I tried to pay by credit card, but since that's handled through PayPal, they said I had to use my PayPal account instead (an account which I'd like to get rid of, but haven't figured out how). So I had to start over, trying to log into my PayPal account ... when I finally remembered the account info, they said my credit card info had expired, so I couldn't use my PayPal account without entering new credit card info, which required starting over again! At that point, I gave up.

You guys run a great site and I'd like to support you guys, but not if it involves PayPal ... I've had too many bad experiences with them.

Hi,

You can still pay with your Credit Card without using your PayPal account. On the PayPal login screen there is a button that says:

"If you do not currently have a PayPal account [Click Here]"

Click that button and you will be taken to a page to enter your credit card info, billing address, etc. This is direct credit card payment and bypasses any PayPal account creation or login. You can do this whether you have a PayPal account or not.

To close your PayPal account, go to www.paypal.com and login. Click the My Account tab (should already be the default) and then click the Profile link on the next line. Click the Close Account link on the lower left side of that page.

We use PayPal because they offer lower rates in general than do our credit card processor 2.5% vs. 3.0%, the software to use it works and requires no extra effort on our part to implement and we've never had any issue with PayPal or our account in the 4 years we've been using them. Since they added the option of paying without an account the need for a dedicated CC processing service (which costs an arm and leg -- $50/mo for Verisign card processing + $4.50/mo for AMEX + 3.02% discount + $0.25 per authorization fee) is greatly deminished. PayPal is offering us 2.5% on US charges with no monthly fee and no per transaction fees. The trouble with PayPal is the checkout/login page is not very obvious in telling you to login OR pay by credit card. "If you don't have an account [Click Here]" is PayPal speak for "[Click Here] to pay by Credit Card".

I'm pretty sure that's the button I used. After entering my info, it said something to the effect of, "you have a PayPal account, you have to use it instead." (Maybe it was "you have a PayPal account attached to this credit card number, you have to sign in and use it instead" ... but then when I tried to do that, it complained about the expired date.)

I may try your directions for closing the account, and see if that works. I understand your reasons and I'm not upset at you guys; I'm just pointing out you may be losing some money because some people won't put up with the hassle of PayPal's user unfriendliness - I know I'm not the only one who doesn't like them.

You can try using an eCheck through PayPal as well.

I seems as though PayPal does not let you use a credit card that you have added to your PayPal account. Remove the card, close your account or login and use it. The net result is the same.
