You know it's bad when I have better luck searching s2ki via google then actually using the search function on the site itself! I don't think I have ever got the thing to work; it doesn't matter what the hell you're searching for....

The search function gets significantly better when you use it correctly. This post helped me greatly. It's still not perfect, but most of the time it gets me where I want to go.

Hmmm... I've also been having trouble doing searches lately. So as an experiment, I tried to find this thread by doing the following:

1) Click on "Search" button.
2) Enter "+search" in the Keywords area.
3) Click on "Search titles only" to limit the searches.
4) Leave everything else as default (i.e., search all forums, 30 days and newer, etc.)
5) Click on "Perform the search" button.

And after waiting a LOOOOONG time, it came back with the following:
mySQL query error: SELECT macro_value, macro_replace FROM ibf_macro WHERE macro_set=3

mySQL error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query
mySQL error code: 2013
Date: Wednesday 18th of May 2005 09:11:21 AM
Which seems like a time-out. There can't be that many threads with "search" in the title within the last 30 days, can there?

I tried again and got the error:
The error returned was:

You did not enter any keywords to search by or the keywords you used are not permitted due to the high number of matches.
So it does sound like there are a LOT of threads within the last 30 days with the word "search" in the title.

Third try and got the error:
The error returned was:

Sorry, but we did not find any matches to display. Try again and broaden your search criteria. If you were searching for new posts since your last visit, it's possible that there are none to show.
Now all those matching threads have completely disappeared.

I have read the "how to search" post, and I thought I know how to do it. If this is not the right way to do a search, can someone post the procedures to use to find this thread using keywords? Thanks.

yeah, the search page worked maybe about 5-10% of the time for me, so i stopped using it. instead, i've been using the search textbox (top right, underneath the S2Ki logo), and i haven't had any problems whatsoever. i don't know why, but that way seems to work fine.

There is a difference between the two? I just thought the search page was the same thing with more options. I always use the text box when I perform searches.

no idea if there is a difference or not, but the text box definitely does not time out as much as the main search page. in fact, i don't think it's timed out on me before.
