no idea if there is a difference or not, but the text box definitely does not time out as much as the main search page. in fact, i don't think it's timed out on me before.
It doesn't time out because I automatically add a + in front of every keyword you enter. On advanced search I don't. Search for "exhaust" in advanced search and you are searching for "Any post which might contain the keyword exhaust", an exhausting list pardon the pun.

But I DID put a "+" in front of my advanced search attempt and it still failed. Here is an experiment you can try:

Open two internet browsers, point both to the S2ki forums page.
On one browser window, enter a keyword in the "simple search" area, such as "search" and hit the magnifying glass.
On the other browser window, hit the "Search" button to get to the "advanced search" page and enter the EXACT same keyword in the "Keywords" area AND MAKE SURE YOU PREFIX IT WITH A "+" -- for example "+search". Leave all other settings as defaults. Hit the "Perform the search" button.

In the "simple search" browser window, you will receive a list of posts back in no time. In the "advanced search" browser window, it will either time out or return with no matches.

Interesting. I'll need to look at that and figure out why that happens. Thanks!

In the good ol' days, search worked beautifully. A year ago (?), right around the time we switched over the a later version of the forums, the search function underwent surgery... I don't think it ever came close to recovering. Maybe I need to relearn how to use this specific search, but all I can say at this point is its operation is vastly different (for better or worse) than it was, say, 2 years ago...
