Default Mods versus Warranty

I am looking to put a Cold Air Intake on my S2000 but I also do not want to mess with my warranty.

Choices are,

Injen CAI or Comptech CAI

Rumor, I can have the comptech Cai installed and not worry about warranty. Not sure what to do!

a cai will most likely not void warrenty because they have to prove the cai caused the problem you may have, all a cold air intake does is suck in air. if you ever really do have a problem with you car, you can put on the stock airbox and no one will know. i went with the injen intake and should have it sometime this week.

Unless the cai sucked water....can't cover that up by putting back the stock intake..

The best solution is to get know your service advisor. Most of them are coo..but if get one of those a-hole then i suggest u check another dealer. Those A-hole would blame the engine light due to the emblem change or stickers on the car..

IMO

My service advisor (not the mechanic) thought that my Mugen CAI was a supercharger. It was definitely funny...but it shouldn't void your warranty.

The legality is that the burden of proof for the mod damaging or voiding the warranty is on the dealer. The reality is that they can make your life very difficult in spite of the legality. If you are very worried about your car/warranty or the dealer, go with the Comptech. The dealer should recognize it as a "better than factory" piece. If nothing else an Acura dealer will.

Most dealers understand now that these things only cause engine failures if you damn near submerge the front end, and won't give you smack about having a CAI on the car if you come in, say, for a transmission failure.
