Default Ultimate Coil Over Review

I am looking for a set of coilovers for the track and I found this great article worth posting

http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produc...k-shootout.pdf

I found it on Science of Speeds website
http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produc...ion/Variant_3/

Here are a few pages out of the article

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree.

The article above is one of the worst "comparisons" I've read in a long time. The lack of variable control makes the sector time data useless, literally. AP2 vs AP1, aero vs no aero, different sized tires? WTF?

The article does a decent job of documenting some of the qualitative characteristics and seeing the damping curves (usually not provided on most manufacturer websites) is interesting. The article should be taken with a grain of salt.

You would think that with these guys being car nuts they would have thought this out much better. The spoon car in that comparison was like bringing a machine gun to a knife fight. THe shock dynos could have been much more useful if they gave the graph some numbers/units on the x/y axis as well and not only that, some of the cars had 255's on all 4 four corners. While the article does have good information about key terms, methods, and general practice the ability to actually compare coilovers among the masses could have been done MUCH MUCH better.

The article clearly states the modifications on each car and even mentions the Spoon car was modded much farther than they had asked. As for the shock dyno info, I'm pretty sure they state in the article they could not release the actual numbers due to the shock manufacturers not wanting that information public.

You have to realize the magazines only have so many resources. In this case, they were dependent on cars to be provided by private parties. Do you think everyone is going to un-mod their cars to try to make them all even?

If you think you can do better, go ahead and organize a fleet of S2000s with every type of suspension option out there and get them together for a comparison.
