i saw a bumper sticker once that said,
"the more i know people, the more
i like dogs." seems kind of fitting for
this thread.

Do you know what the difference is between BMW owners and porcupines? The porcupines have little pricks on the outside...

Anyway, cute story I once read, possibly in Reader's Digest. A guy held open a door for a woman. She turned around and said in a nasty tone of voice, "You don't have to hold the door open just because I'm a lady!". To which he replied, "I do not hold the door open because you are a lady, I hold the door open because I am a gentleman."

Merri and I have had this conversation on several ocassions. I ask her to take note on how many guys hold open doors for others, be it male or female (I notice the number of door holders has declined over the years). Now notice how many gals do the same... significantly less. Chivalrous or not, I think it's common courtesy to hold open the door for the person behind you (even if that means you're still walking in ahead of them).

But like you, Ricky, I tend to make a smartass comment, or in a really loud voice say "YOUR WELCOME!" as they walk in. If someone doesn't hold the door for me and it's obvious I could have used a hand (carrying packages and such), I like to give a hearty "Thank you so much for holding that door for me, I really appreciate it!" And to prove what assholes those people are, take a look at their faces... a classy person would be embarassed they missed the opportunity to help someone... the true assholes just looked annoyed/pissed that you pointed out their mistake so publicly.

I've had several instances where people have not held the door, and I loudly sarcastically say "Thanks for holding that door for me... you are such a gentleman". I have had times where little kids have held the door for me. I say, "Thank you very much, you ARE a gentleman."

I hold door for people all the time, especially if they are behind me about to walk in. I think it's better than having a door slammed in your face! I just guess some people are not educated properly on good manners.

Sometimes people who put down other people are making themselves feel better about who they are and their mediocre status in society.

And I don't hold the door for anyone... they can open the door their damn selfs.

WELL maybe some people dont like people driving next to them for three minutes maybe he thinks your trying to race him
We were in stopped traffic. We couldn't race.. I was only right next to him cause we were stuck there at the light.. When we turned we were next to eachother cause, we were next to eachother.. we couldn't race.

And I always go out of my way to hold the door open for people.. even if they are way behind.. I still do it..
