Yea you can get a center console for that. Hulls last if they don't have wooden stringers in them. Look for a hull you like, put the money in the motor.

You can probably pick something up around 17 feet with a 85 or 90 that's a couple years old and in good shape. Get a self bailer and a 4 stroke motor if you can.

Have Fun

They're less fuel efficient and stinkier though .

Coral Doc - 2 strokes still have a place and may be around for a long time. I'm running twin 200 HPDIs on a 25' Bluewater and can get 2.5 mpg at 37 mph. 4-strokes are heavier and only get around 2.2 at the same speed, and can't get the same efficiency. Lots of setups where 2-strokes are the most fuel efficient AND fastest.

I assume you'll be launching out of Matheson? - long ride across the bay, used to do it in a 13' whaler. You won't have any kidneys left by the end of the day. For 10K used is likley your best route. Look at an old Hewes 18' bonefisher, SeaStrike 17, etc. Mako 17' is a great all-around boat if it is a pre-1990' hull. Problem with post 1994 Makos, many had mercs put on, and they are often trashed by now. Quality of the hulls went down/was poor when they were sold to Bass Pro @1994/1995. Aquasport 17 is another good choice. Good luck!
