Default Carmax

Hey guys, like the topic says anyone ever sold their car to carmax? Good experience or a pain in the ass?

I do not want to deal with selling it privately, so its either Carmax or going to the dealer and getting raped when trading it in.

Thanks,

Joaquin

It's the same thing either way. I sold my car privately for $4000 more than what Carmax offered me. I think the only reason to sell through CarMax is if you need cash right away. If you have no time to sell it on your own you might as well sell it to the dealer and maybe you can get a better deal in the end.

Other than the extremely low offer, the entire experience was really pleasant. They are extremely professional.

I see. The car I am trying to sell is my wife's Scion tc, not the S2k. It is bone stock and looks the same as when I bought it.

I wanted to bring it to them and see what they offer me before I bring it to the dealer to trade it in.I just do not want to start getting phone calls and what not from them trying to sell me a car.

The one thing if I trade it in is that I save the tax amount based on the trade in value that I get.

Selling it privately is probably going to be a pain in the ass ... I might put an ad in the paper for 2 weeks and see what happens.

See if you can put it on the Scion Forums or else auto trader...Otherwise you are gonna take a hit going with a dealer..I don't think you should have a hard time selling a car that gets over 30mpg nowadays..

It doesn't cost you a penny to take it to car max and find out what they'll give you for it!!!

Yeah, I know.

My question was more of whether once you are in there they get to be a pain in the ass about selling you a car and keep you in there for 3 hours.

I sold 2 cars to carmax and with another one I used the printed quote they gave me to negotiate a trade-in on a new car somewhere else. I'm satisfied with carmaxes service because they can take the car immediately and hand a check over to you. If the car is not paid off and you owe a bank money they handle all of that too.
Some tips: They pretty much go by the kelly blue book as far as offers so low miles, detail clean and stock are best. Ooh... and get there first thing in the morning to reduce the waiting time. The last time I was there I waited 2 hours. Good luck.
