Cindy.

I'm sorry about your theft, that really sucks. I have info on good alarms if you need some advice. BTW, if it's going to take a really long time for replacement seats from Honda, find out how much the insurance company will pay and consider buying a set of Recaro's. They are great seats and my get you back in the saddle sooner.

I believe seat locks and an alarm are a good deterent. If the car is making noice, it attracts atention a thief doesn't want. the secret is to have the alarm set up so it only goes off if someone is fu_cking with your car....

ok I just re-read this. i need to go back to scholl and learn how to write again....

Wow, that really sucks. My best wishes on those scumbags getting caught. I'm thinking about moving for sort term and having my car left out of a garage for the first time and left in an apt. parking lot. Stories like this scare me. Good luck with getting new seats and working with your insurance.

Hey Gan, I did not know that you were unaware that with each seat lock purchase, one gets stickers letting thieves know you've modified the OEM assembly. That pretty much invalidates a lot of my points toward your first post. I would agree without a sticker, a thief would have no idea the seats would be nearly impossible to steal and probably after working to get into the car, would be upset they've been duped. I thought you were implying that if a person had that sticker, the thief would break into the car just to be malicious for not being able to take 'em.
Also, since I'm still fairly new to the area, many of you guys will read my words and incorrectly sense a dismissive tone from them. My two favorite comics are Dennis Miller and George Carlin so that would probably give you an idea of my sarcasm levels. Hell, any recent reply by me in other threads amongst the site would quickly reveal that. Why would I be angry at another's opinion? I relish the discourse. It's healthy.
I saw no personal lobs being thrown and felt Gan's reply to me was warranted based on my response to his.

On another note, people should be free to exchange opinions without fear of closing a thread because some of us get uncomfortable when members disagree. Mature conversation written, even when opinions differentiate wildly, should be allowed to flow as if it was conversation spoken. If Gan had felt I had crossed the line and insulted him, I would have expected a PM or different response. I saw his reply to me completely justified and without any malicious intent which is how I responded to his first post. Two men who feel differently about something...that's it, no more no less.
Think of it this way, if we were having the same discussion on a BB night, would anyone threaten to grab their key fob and go home because they weren't comfortable with two people disagreeing?
I simply feel seat locks (and the stickers) are a great $50 investment (if memory serves me...I can't recall what I paid) and worth at least as much as one synthetic oil change, especially if it means your seats won't end up in some punk's '92 Civic.
To end, when I wrote, "massaging a thief's ego" I was implying that if you plan your automobile security around the possibilities of retribution, you are playing into their hands. You don't buy a security system to prevent theft from the professionals, you do it because most car thieves aren't pros, just thugs and it's THOSE folks you are trying to address.
Having said all that, to get back on topic, I hope Cindy that your Honda gets back on the road as soon as possible. I too have had a car broken into and it really is a violation. I wanted to emphasize in my last post that there's a good chance because your S2000 was an easy target for these goobers, they would move on you again. Gan is right...even a blinking light visible from outside the car might be enough to convince them a second break-in might not be worth getting caught. That's how I see the sticker on my own window. "Hmm, can't steal the seats, what's the point of breaking in? I want seats, not shift knobs."
Again, best wishes for a speedy S2000 return.

There in Canada. BTW. I have an idea, lets get together remove our seats and engrave them somewhere, so they can be identified incase this happens to someone else. The cops won't do sh_t unless they can be identified....What do you guys think?????

I dunno. How will we use that? If the cops wont even come to Cindy's house to look at the fingerprints all over the car, how will we get them to flag down a Civic with S2000 seats that we suspect might be stolen?

Sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands...
