A reminder folks... this is not the official 'sign me-up' page...
we are only expressing interest... so we can rouse up a big group for the actual event....

when i see the official sign me up link.. i'll post it...

Interested.

Question... does the Auto Train accomodate for low cars with little ground clearance?

I think I would prefer just driving myself unless the Auto Train can save significant mileage, which from my calculations, it doesn't, at least not for those coming from South FL.

4 inches - nah still got scrapes from being up in GA last time. They put these darned mounds in front of the gas stations so that they do not flood in Atlanta

We should think about setting up a tech day to get little things done to our cars a week or so prior to the event so that some of us can get some things done. I, for one, would like to do an oil change, change tranny fluid, and install the new clutch line I got. We could also in that manor have some time to make plans.

Just a thought.

Red face

For those of you thinking of going, here are some things you might want to consider when it comes to planning when to go....

I've done this trip twice. 2 years ago, we left on a Friday morning, drove all the way up there, did the "event" on Saturday, and drove back Sunday. From the south end of Fort Lauderdale, it's about 880 miles. Last year, a bunch of us drove up on Thursday. Yes, it took all day to get there (and even longer for those of us who took the "scenic" detour w/ a night-time run through the dragon), but it also gave us all day Friday to get in some runs w/o the usual weekend traffic. Plus, getting there a day early didn't make you feel like you were driving all the way there only to turn around immediately & return home.

Weekends tend to be more crowded on the dragon in terms of cars (both car clubs and regular people) and the presence of police. It is a public road with posted speed limits that are, shall we say, much lower than sports car enthusiasts would like. You're less likely to run into the Sunday drivers if you plan on being there at least one non-weekend day.

In order to get some quality time in, I'd suggest that you either leave FL a day early (Thursday) or leave TN a day later (Monday or Tuesday). Last year, the hotel did honor the group rate if you arrived on Thursday, which was a day before the "official" event started.

Hope this gives you a few things to consider so that if you go, you can get the most out of the trip!!!
