Default First time Auto-xing help

Im going to the Auto x on march 13 in homestead for the first time .

What do i need to know?

How do i set up my car??
Should i take out the tire and took kit from my trunk or will it upset the balance of the car?
I know about putting moore pressure in the tires. Do i do that when there cold or hot.

Anything else I should know.

Thanks alot..
Im so excited i cant wait. I hope this isn't addicting!

Take everything out of your car that can move or shift around. This includes floor mats, stuff in the glove box / secret compartment, trunk stuff, etc. Don't think the spare tire needs to come out, but the kit probably should.

As for tire pressure, I'm sure the professionals (Coral Doc, RatedS2k, KeithD) will chime in, but if you're running S02's or S03's, you can start with standard pressure (32 psi).

And yes, it will be addicting!

Bring a helmet too!

make sure it's a snell certified helmut, less than 10 years old. Bring lots of water, and sunscreen, you will spend some time working the track.

Have fun, and like Kimmie said, it's addicting

Especially with street tires, you're going to want to pump up the fronts an additional 5 to 8 psi depending on your preference. You might just want to pump them up to 40 (cold) and leave them there. The backs don't get as much of a flogging, so you can pump them up an additional 2 or 3 psi. The fronts take a beating with the hard cornering, braking, and the combination of the two.

I would recommend taking out the spare, tools, and ANYTHING ELSE that you can spare. Floor mates, and radar detector are a must, but you can also remove the glovebox items, and anything else that is easily removable. I don't take the amp from under my seat, but I do take the speaker box out of the back.

Top down is also recommended in order to lowe the center of gravity a LITTLE. I know it's not much, but sometimes it's the litlest thing that gives you that needed .001, plus it's more fun going topless.

For more info, I'm sure the R&C forum has a bunch of tips.

Good luck, have fun, and keep the sticky parts down!

It's more convenient for you to register online. Here's the link to the Equipe rapide website where you can find the link for the online registration form. It really streamlines the registration process on the morning of the event.

Here's another link to a very helpful autocross FAQ. Read it and you'll have a better idea about what to expect.

Just show up with you, the car, your driver's licence and a helmet (it must be Snell 1990 certified or newer to qualify). Anyone of us regulars will be happy to help you out with air, tire pressure, spare tire/tray removal, whatever.

Thanks for the help guys. Couple more questions. I'm trying to register, and I need to input my car class. All my car has right now is an AEM CAI,a front strut bar, and 17" rims, so I'm guessing it goes in the S category, however, which S class? Also, I didn't read in the FAQ, but what is the appropriate way to affix your number to your car? Thanks.
