Post Prospective new s2k owner

Hi all, let me introduce myself. I'm a commercial pilot living in Hollywood for the last 3 years. Just turned 40 ( look and feel much younger!!) I miss having a convertible, briefly had a '99 Miata years ago. Currently drive an Accord and getting bored! Most of my driving will be "fun" driving. My commute consists of a 10 min ride to the airport twice/mo. I've been test driving many roadsters over the last month or so : Z4, 350, TT, SLK 350, Boxter. All have their +/ -, however, none of them have thrilled me like the S2k, man what a fun car! Awsome looks, super fun, priced right and fits me like a glove. After lurking here for the last few days, I have a major concern ( I think u know where I'm going with this ), SEAT THEFT!. I'ts making me think twice about the Honda, I live in a condo so no garage. From what Im reading from you guys is I need two things: 1. A good quality alarm and seat locks from one of your members. I'm going to call Audio Logic tomorrow and see what they suggest. I'm I too late to buy those seat locks from ??? ( can't think of his name ). Anyone leasing their s2k here? i was going to hold out for the '06, but man, I have a feeling i can negotiate a killer deal on an '05. These dealers are practically begging me to take one off their hands. INSURANCE, I have Progressive and they quoted me $ 900 for a 6 month policy (thats with leasing ). Cheaper if I finance it. You guys recommend some other companies? Thanks for hearing me out, I hope to meet you all soon at one of your gatherings.

George

Kodokan is the guy for the seat locks. If he can't help you out, send me a PM for an alternative that is better than stock, but not as secure as the seat lock solution.

For insurance, try Mercury Casualty. They offer excellent rates and great service.

You present an interesting dilema. Seat theft seems to have been a problem in Dade and Broward county. I live in Palm Beach, so really no problem for me. I do keep my car in a garage 80% of the time. You have hit the two main solutions, alarm and seat locks. Audio logic is a great place, I have had a lot of work done there. Ask for Mike or Charlie.

Check to see if your apartments have garages for rent. Also you could buy a hardtop for your car (that is how most get into the car is through the roof) or move farther north and get more a drive in the S to work. I would hate for you to miss out on the fun of the S because of the seat issue. Do take note that there are a number of members on this forum that live in Dade and Broward county and have had no problem with seat theft.

Good luck with your decision.

one other thing, consider a car cover for you car when it's parked, then most people won't know what is underneath the cover, but keep lots of wax ont he car and take the cover off when you're in town

I leased my S2000.. had no problems trading it in at the end. I did get my seats stolen, but that was before the alarm and seat locks. Highly recommend those two things.

As for the insurance I was getting raped by State Farm before i switched over to Mercury Insurance.... they gave me an AWESOME deal, paying half of what i was at State Farm. I suggest you check them out!!

Have fun and good luck getting the car. It truly was a fun car for me!

I would agree that it has got to be hard living with an S in a condo, but then again I would still say that the positives outweigh the negatives, and that it would still be worth your while. with good insurance, an allarm, a cover, and seat locks, it should be no more than an inconveniance.

simply put the S is the most fun you can have in a motor vehicle, and living in south florida you really cant get any better....aside from maybe a lear I guess. The testament to the car is how adamant every owner on the board here is backing up the car, even in light of its obvious troubles. Good luck with your decision either way!!

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm going to take the plunge and take my chances. I noticed the '06 is getting different seats, wonder if these will take care of the seat theft problem??

The problem with the S2000 seats is that they pretty much bolt right in to Civics and Integras, so there's a large market for them. If Honda changed the mounting system, there may be relief. But if the change is only cosmetic, then it won't matter much.
