I'm pretty sure the owner is well aware of it, if they found the car the first person to contact is the owner , then he'll go to see the car and then the insurance will send an adjuster to see the damage after that is the insurance choice or get to an agreement with the owner. But defenetly the owner has to know about his car beeing found.

its not hard for a thief to sell a stolen car to an auction either
I don't know why you think that the owner of the car doesn't know about it. Are you assuming that because he hasn't posted in here? Maybe he's past S2Ki and S2000s by now. Hell, he might not even NEED to know about it. If the car was found AFTER he got paid, then the car belongs to the insuance company, so there might be no need for the insurance to contact him anymore (not saying this is the case, but it's possible).

Actually, it is practically impossible. Auctions don't buy cars from any hoodlum off the street that just shows up with a stolen car without papers. Actually, auctions don't even buy cars. Auctions are simply a place for dealers, insurance companies, and banks to buy and sell cars, not private persons. All the paperwork has to be there and all VINs are checked out before an auction accepts a car to be sold. And not only do you need a dealer license to buy or sell at an auction, the amount of paperwork to even register for an auction is crazy, so it's not like a thief can just walk in with an illegitimate car and sell it to anyone.

ya i was assuming that since he said keep an eye out that maybe he would come back and say "thanks guys never mind anymore" or something to that effect. rather than just leave it hanging. even if i were over the whole club/car id still thank/update the ppl i asked for help at least.
but like u said if he already got paid on it, then its possible he DOESNT even know and wouldnt need to anyways. but i would still say SOMETHING about it being resolved.
just an opinion
