Default Stolen Car/Seats Question

Hey guys, I'm in the market to pick up an S2K sometime in the near future. I know these cars are heavily targeted for theft of either the seats or the entire car. I would get an alarm put in the day I got it and get seat locks as soon as I could. But I was wondering, for the people who have been hit at home, has anyone had it happen to them while living in a gated community? I know the cars get hit anywhere, movie theaters, grocery stores, etc., but I wasn't sure if living in a gated community offered any extra security. I would imagine it being difficult for someone to steal the seats and throw them over a fence and run away with them. But thieves have no bounds sometimes.

Gated communities offer little to no security IMO because anyone can get in and a lot of them just leave the gate open

Just pick up a set of seat locks and an alarm

I'd recommend an alarm, seat locks and a GPS system at the very least, kill switches too if you're crafty enough

Keeping the car behind closed doors is your best bet. I would recommend holding off until you can get a garage otherwise it's a sitting duck. Generally speaking, people have a false sense of security because they live in a gated community.

The only way I'll feel safe about leaving my car outdoors in a community is if it has armed guards, everyone who enters has to show I.D. and the cameras are recording t everyone that enters. I've only seen that type of security in communities with "million dollar" homes.

It's tough owning an import that is targeted because you're always worrying about it being stolen which leads to a lot of sleepless nights and a sense of paranoia when you're constantly looking out the window to check on your car.

Easy solution, full coverage insurance. I love my car but I won't let it dictate how I sleep and what I do. Then again mine is garage kept and I bought an Integra for a daily.

Theft is always a concern with modified cars as well as our S2's in stock form but you should never let thieves deter you from enjoying what ever it is you enjoy (this includes sleep). Alarm, good insurance and be smart is good enough. Dont stress yourself about theft, just understand the hard truth before you jump in and accept it and if you cant then go buy a ford fusion. Drive it where ever, park it when you get there (be sure to turn and smile at it when walking away), and just enjoy the ride. If it is stolen, broken into or vandalized just file your insurance claim and do it all over again (rinse and repeat).

I love my little car and I know S.Florida has quite a few fools who target cars like ours but I'm not going to loose sleep over it.

This is all very true. I would like to get a place with a garage of course but that might be out of my budget for the near future. I've been waiting years to be able to be in a position where I could afford to own one (hence me joining this site back in '06). And I know these cars are only getting older since they're not being made anymore. So waiting even longer till I get a place with a garage would prolong by satisfaction of ownership. But it is a dilemma.

The BRZ looks so inviting because its a lightweight FR car that I won't have to worry about being stolen and is brand new, but the s2000 is my dream car, and I know I'll always want one, even if I was driving the BRZ.
