Talking Track_like area?

Kind of random question, probably won't get a very good answer either, but i'm very curious. Is there any area (preferably around Boca) that is "track-like"? Not really an official track, but just some abandoned road with twisties.... can do a nice lil' run. See how the S truly can drive. Without the hassle of going to an official track. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

Ever try autocross? check out www.autox.carlc.com

The next event is in 2 weeks on the 28th. That's much better than driving lilke a madman on roads. And you know how well you can actually drive against the clock, instead of "feeling" how well you drive. And it won't kill your car. Check it out.

Hmm, never really payed too much attention to Autocross, seems interesting now that I look into it. Have you ever done it? What's it like? What do you need to do to your car? (Could I just drive there, with OKish tires/brakes/etc.)

Auto-x events are awesomely fun! You don't need to do much of anything to your car except remove all items that can shift while you're on the course (ie: stuff in the trunk, glove box, secret compartment, floor mats, etc.).

From what others have told me, it's best to NOT do major changes to your car (tires, brakes, suspension, etc.) before you go the first time.

Try to find a HPDE event to attend. You'll get a TON of seat time and really, really learn a lot about your driving & the car!!! I went to a HPDE event by Evolution and it was probably the most fun I've had in the car since getting it 3+ years ago. Coral Doc and Fyrestrike can fill you in on Chin events too!!!

Yeah I've done it for a llittle over a year and it's great. You can pretty much show up in ANY car, as long as it's in normal working condition and participate in one of these events, because there's surely a class for your car. Like Jerseygirl said, all you really need to do is empty your car from all loose items, including the spare and floor mats, etc.. pay the $35 fee and drive. You need a Snell approved Helmet, but if you don't have one, they have plenty of loaner helmets. You usually get 4-5 runs and you will definitely have plenty of competition, both overall and in your class (A-stock) if your car is still stock. There should be over 100 people at this event as it's the first one of the year.

It's pretty much just about fun. No one wins their first time out. The hardest thing for first timers is usually staying on the course as all the cones are a little confusing at first. As you get better when you really get used to driving your car aggresively you'll start to try to improve. Maybe it's beating that one guy that you just didn't like his car, or the guy that keeps beating you in the "slower" car. AutoX is definitely about the driver more than the car.

Check it out, you'll have a blast.
