I've always wanted to do this...

 

Not sure what route you are taking but, we have about 7 cars doing the same trip you are. We have met at the Turpike exit onto I-75 with cars from Orlando and further south at a prscribed time. We take a real sweet route through GA (off of the zaniness of I-75) and bunk down in Dillard, GA on Thursday evening. Great food, great company and then we head out on Friday morning and take roads that are a absolute hoot as a warm up for a 12:00 arrival at the Fontana Resort.

It should be noted that there are rockslides blocking some areas... although the dragon in and of itself is perfectly clear... some ways down on the TN side exit/entry of it.. there is a slide and its been closed...

There are negotiations to open it back up.. but who knows... nonetheless.. there are plenty of other roads to see/drive...
