what is industry standard these days as far as software. Is maya still getting it done or has then been better programs since maya. it has been years since I fiddled in this field.

I was working with Infini-d, 3dstudio max, crystal topas (old school for real) years ago....LOL
We're finally safe back home

Silicon Graphics last time I checked was out of the computer business and I don't blame them, with desktop system in excess of $20K and having to use unique ram and software I'm not surprised.

Believe or not most good computers can run today

They had to create a solar system with an X number of planet rotations. My team created 4 camera angles with particle effects to create fire then the animation would end with the sun creating a massive explosion. They had 3.5 hours to complete from the story boards, modeling, texturing to the final render, it was crunch time!!
