Maybe the answer for all this BS madness is to see how the S2000 CR will be, seeing what comes from Honda factory on a S2000 designed specifically for track will answer many questions and show how can be done right, although this will live forever i always ask myself, if the Factory Hardtop is only 40lbs how come rollcages are so popular, maybe to show some boyracer attitude for the innocent young eyes on the streets??

I don't know why you all get you panties in a wad for and get so defensive.
It's very simple, Alex, Marc, me and others have simply stated our opinion on these parts and their use.
You guys stated yours.
Do you see us throwing
around and saying "whatever, this is bs", no, we haven't. We aren't hating on JDM parts, we actually like them and think some look good, but not for us as far as their use.

I don't hate jdm parts. I hate the jdm 'tuning' scene because it's full of the same stuff we're against in this thread. that and half the guys who are into it don't know their asshole from their earholes when it comes to car shit and think that throwing $ or jdm parts at a car with no point/goal in mind is a huge benefit

and just to be clear... i'm not bashing styling/dress up parts... they're just that... dress up. but don't tell me that an ugly ass jdm body kit is ok because it's "functional" because it was wind tunnel tested, etc when you know damn well the person only bought it because it was mugen/spoon/amuse, etc and knows he won't ever see a track/race. i'm sure most of those people are too worried about scratching up their paint anyway

I've resisted a long time.. but there are distinct arguments here.
a) jdm is nice looking. Its not really necessary to be funcitonal.. it looks good. It has quality from a fitment issue.
b) form w/o function is somehwat a waste of money. it does look nice but it isn't being used.
in the case of the cusco cage, yes in fact it does look nice, but it does not do what a 'roll cage' is designed to do, namely, protect the driver in the event of a roll over, the bolts will fail.
additionally, the roll cage is part of a system of protective gear when 'tracking', the use of a roll cage w/o supporting helmets is actually a dangerous thing to do.

I'm sure the B group will concede that the items in question do have a certain aesthetic quality, if the A group can concede that the items albeit aesthetically pleasing, in this sense have a limited functional quality.
